TW Newsdesk, November 24: Facial recognition technology is majorly connected with uses such as surveillance and the authentication of human faces, but scientists believe they’ve discovered a new use for it — saving seals.

A research team at Colgate University has built SealNet, a database of seal faces formed by taking pictures of dozens of harbor seals in Casco Bay of Maine. The team noticed the tool’s accuracy in recognising the marine mammals is approximately 100%, which is no little accomplishment in an ecosystem abode to thousands of seals.
