TW Newsdesk, Feb 8: According to reports, on February 7, Tuesday, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan proclaimed a three-month state of emergency in 10 of the earthquake-devastated districts in the country’s southeast.
Erdogan said in broadcast remarks, ‘We have decided to proclaim an emergency situation in order to expedite our (rescue and restoration) operations.’ The region’s two most devastating earthquakes in in a century have left Turkey as well as neighbouring Syria in ruins, killing dozens of people and destroying thousands of structures.
More than 5,000 people had died as of the time of writing, and many more were still missing or critically injured.
