TW Newsdesk, Dec 22: Talking minutely and deeply about the life threatening disease called ‘Cancer’, at the press conference at The Woodlands Multi-specialty Hospital, Kolkata on December 22nd , Dr. Prasenjit Chatterjee MBBS and MD with a clinical experience for over 30 years in the field of Oncology (Medicine) came up with the various aspects of this disease.
In his speech he briefly discussed about the major causes of cancer which is consumption of all forms of tobacco and alcohol. As a responsible citizen we all know that ‘Excess of anything is bad’, and that is exactly the message Dr. Chatterjee wanted to spread.
Dr. Chatterjee further made us aware of the present count of Cancer patients globally which stands at 18.1 million whereas the count in India is a staggering 11,57,294 cases. At the same time he also showed us the death rate of Cancer patients which unfortunately is approximately around 7 lakhs.
The session mainly stressed on ‘Breast cancer’, which is a major concern in women. 1 out of 8 globally and 1 out of 20 women in India get affected by this disease annually. If we look into the numbers, India alone in a year sees 1.62 lakh cases and almost 87,000 women succumb to it. Surprisingly, in the state of West Bengal 149 men also got diagnosed with this variant of Cancer.
Concluding the session, Dr. Chatterjee gave some major important prevention tips to fight this deadly disease which includes having an active lifestyle, controlled weight, nursing the baby properly(breast feeding and conceiving at an early age), avoiding contraceptive pills and hormone replacement therapy.
To sum up this whole interactive session on this destructive disease Dr. Chatterjee brought up the importance of the word “Limit” and how this five letter word can save one’s life massively.
