TW Newsdesk, January 25: Samajwadi Party leader Swami Prasad Maurya was arrested for his remarks on the Ramcharitmanas, but he has refused to apologize, claiming that he was speaking about a specific phrase in the Hindu epic poem and not about Lord Ram or any particular faith.

In an interview Maurya, a senior OBC politician in Uttar Pradesh mostly maintained his position but insisted that he did not speak on behalf of the SP when he made the remarks that caused controversy and embarrassed his party. He affirmed, “I had said at the time of providing the statement that this is my own statement.
